I Created a Digital Magazine!!

February 07, 2018 by Kelly Boylan

I'm so excited to share volume one of Roots Magazine. Over the years I've felt incredibly inspired by Darling Magazine - from their mission to their killer content, I love it all. Stay Rooted Love is a great space for me to share my photos and thoughts in "real time." But Roots Magazine is more curated, and focuses solely on my film photography.

My desire is to keep growing the magazine, to feature friends as writers and contributors, and to eventually move to digital download and harp copy prints. Please, if you feel inspire and inclined, visit the Shop page of my website to purchase volume one for just $5. It'll come to you as a PDF digital version through your inbox, and you can pay using PayPal. I'm so grateful for the ones that come to this sacred space often and take an interest in my life and thoughts and journey.

San Francisco @ 35mm

February 02, 2018 by Kelly Boylan

San Francisco is an easy getaway from Sacramento. If I leave early enough in the morning, before traffic hits, I can get there in an hour and a half. This past weekend my mom and I drove into the city for food and exploring. I brought my Olympus OM10 and several rolls of film and got to work.

We started out at Tartine and ate (almost) all the sweets. My favorite is the morning bun. But literally everything in that bakery is delicious. I've made their morning bun recipe a couple times and it's a long process. The whole thing takes three days from start to finish.

My friend Betsy is a brilliant illustrator and artistic person all around. She exposed me to the Legion of Honor Museum and my mom and I were able to experience it first hand. When I was in New York a couple years ago I visited The Met and spent at least three hours inside. Even then I couldn't even get through half of it. My favorite are the old oil paintings. The ones that feature portraits show off such incredible attention to detail and light. It's amazing to me because I'm so used to seeing photographs. But these paintings are just a life-like as a a still photograph.

4505 is an incredible BBQ spot the universe brought me to a couple years ago. And right across the street is The Mill, and The Perish Trust, the cutest little boutique shop for home and health and dress.

Flower Crowns and Pour Choice(s)

I spent this past Sunday with Betsy and Kyra out in Auburn for a flower crown workshop at The Pour Choice. It was such a fun time of creativity and community. I love exploring new spots. And the Auburn area holds a special place in my heart. There are so many easy day hikes in the greater area. The Old Auburn area is full of antique shops, restaurants, and boutiques. It's a short enough drive out of Sacramento to go up for a couple hours, but also long enough to make me feel like I'm getting out of my normal routine and everyday life.

Sometimes I Do Cool Things With Cool People

January 22, 2018 by Kelly Boylan

Last weekend I had the opportunity to do some exploring with photographers and videographers of some local trails. We started in Auburn and ended up with the El Dorado National Forest. It was so beautiful. A long day. But man is it incredible to witness the astounding nature in our own "backyard." I love living in Northern California and all of the adventure that is so easily within reach.
