San Francisco is an easy getaway from Sacramento. If I leave early enough in the morning, before traffic hits, I can get there in an hour and a half. This past weekend my mom and I drove into the city for food and exploring. I brought my Olympus OM10 and several rolls of film and got to work.
We started out at Tartine and ate (almost) all the sweets. My favorite is the morning bun. But literally everything in that bakery is delicious. I've made their morning bun recipe a couple times and it's a long process. The whole thing takes three days from start to finish.
My friend Betsy is a brilliant illustrator and artistic person all around. She exposed me to the Legion of Honor Museum and my mom and I were able to experience it first hand. When I was in New York a couple years ago I visited The Met and spent at least three hours inside. Even then I couldn't even get through half of it. My favorite are the old oil paintings. The ones that feature portraits show off such incredible attention to detail and light. It's amazing to me because I'm so used to seeing photographs. But these paintings are just a life-like as a a still photograph.
4505 is an incredible BBQ spot the universe brought me to a couple years ago. And right across the street is The Mill, and The Perish Trust, the cutest little boutique shop for home and health and dress.

I spent this past Sunday with Betsy and Kyra out in Auburn for a flower crown workshop at The Pour Choice. It was such a fun time of creativity and community. I love exploring new spots. And the Auburn area holds a special place in my heart. There are so many easy day hikes in the greater area. The Old Auburn area is full of antique shops, restaurants, and boutiques. It's a short enough drive out of Sacramento to go up for a couple hours, but also long enough to make me feel like I'm getting out of my normal routine and everyday life.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to do some exploring with photographers and videographers of some local trails. We started in Auburn and ended up with the El Dorado National Forest. It was so beautiful. A long day. But man is it incredible to witness the astounding nature in our own "backyard." I love living in Northern California and all of the adventure that is so easily within reach.

Too much free time is a dangerous thing for me. So is packing my schedule so full that I don't take care of myself. When I have unscheduled time, or not much on my to-do list I feel antsy and anxious. I start feeling frustrated with where I'm at, what I don't have, what I want, and then I start feeling guilty for feeling sorry for myself and wanting more. When I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I like it, but it inevitably burns me out and ends with literal physical illness, or a complete mental and emotional breakdown.
Finding and walking the middle path is a daily challenge. One I know I'll work through for the rest of my life. Through the good, the bad, the ugly, the exciting, the trying, through every experience I want to be present and aware; open and full of conviction; brave and vulnerable.
