Bright Lights in the Big City

Incredible dinner at Vezzo Thin Crust Pizza.

Day Three: Coffe and breakfast at Irving Farm, dropped off mom at The Met, then had an AMAZING spa experience at The Carlyle Sense Spa (with Natalia. Highly recommend her), Macarons & other goodies from Laduree,  & a hearty lunch from Dean & Deluca.

In love with the red doors I'm seeing around the city

Tonight we're going to see a Broadway show, Matilda, then a late night dinner at Nizza (which is the first restaurant I ate at here in New York on my very first trip).

New York: A Love Letter

This is my fourth time in NYC within the last two years. My best friend moved out here two years ago, and three of those four trips were to visit her and explore her new home. This time, I took my mama.

First thing after we dropped off our bags at our Airbnb apartment was a restaurant up the street called Bareibo Enoteca

Full disclosure, this picture is from my second visit on the same night...

AND THEN I SAW SARA BAREILLES LIVE. If you know one thing about me, it should be that Sara is one of my favorite human beings of all time. (You might still be able to watch the previously live streamed show here)

Literally grinned ear-to-ear the WHOLE show

Day two started with waiting in line to get standby tickets for Jimmy Fallon. Unfortunately, we didn't make the final cut later in the afternoon. We found a Blue Bottle Coffee, one of my favorites coast to coast. Much to my mother's (and my) surprise and enjoyment, they were playing Jack's Mannequin while we were waiting in line.

Went back to the apartment for a nap and refresher. Then it was off to Brooklyn to visit Cat Bird, and an amazing lunch from Pates & Traditions

I've found lots of these stencil pieces around New York

Now off to dinner (pizza, obviously, with a nice glass of red). Three more days in this beautiful city...

Made in Sacramento

This weekend was packed! Subbed two classes at Arden Hot Yoga Saturday morning, got a pedicure from the amazing Ashley at KT's Nail Salon, (sort of) read for school for a couple hours, took a nap, then got dinner with the little brother at The Cafeteria. We went to Ginger Elizabeth after for dessert, which is always a good decision...and yet too hard to make just a couple choices on treats. My favorite by far is the milk chocolate almond rocher.

Also a favorite of mine! Especially since it's so rich and you can only eat a small amount at a time, so it lasts a while.

Then I met up with friends at the Made in Sacramento event at the Raphael Delgado Art Studio, hosted by City Scout Magazine.

Can you spot my contribution to the community artwork?

Awesome DJ's on hand at the event.

Sweet friends Max & Carolyn

Final product from the in progress pic above
Today I slept in because I was a bit hung over from last night's festivities taught my 10:30a at Arden, hung out with one of my nanny charges for a couple hours at the park, then taught my 4:30p and subbed the 6p yin at Arden. SO.TIRED. And still have SOMUCHHOMEWORK.
(I'm really just winning at this whole adult thing...)

Bacon & Butter

This past Mother's Day my brothers & I tried to take our mom to Bacon & Butter. Our plans were thwarted however when we got there and saw about thirty people outside waiting to get in!

Today is a very special day. When I got there at 8:05a (five minutes after opening) there were only about ten people waiting.

Sweet and savory with the Belgian waffle and breakfast burger.

Home Improvements

When I was young I can remember asking my dad to rearrange the furniture in my bedroom at least every three months. I would get out my pencil and paper and sketch out where I wanted everything to go, and that sweet man would shift things around every time for me.

I still follow a similar pattern-a need to change things up so that they don't become too familiar or monotonous. I spend most of my Pinterest time on the "home decor" page (read: this is a lie. I spend most of my time in the "humor" section looking for stupid memes to send to my best friend).

My latest project was on a small scale, but it was exactly what I needed. It didn't take too long, or too much money, and was the perfect outlet and distraction from the mounds of reading and writing I had to get through this weekend (this is also a lie. I did not get through all whole mound. Procrastination is my other best friend).

This was my inspiration:

I bought the legs and mounts, stain and gold spray paint from Emigh Hardware. All together, with the paint brush too, it came out to about $50, which sounds expensive, but compared to some online shops I visited, $5/leg was the cheapest I could find.

Upcycled empty beer bottle letting the stain dry...brilliant, I know

In the company of the amazing Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black as I constructed

(after) I've always had a hard time styling these units...

The box on bottom holds several halloween themed magnets we always put on the fridge growing up

One of my dearest friends, Melissa, made this for me years ago. It's my future coffee house/book store

I was so excited when I found this beautiful woman at the Alameda Antiques Fair last year

Mid November I will transform the whole shelving unit into a Department56 Christmas village, and I am so excited to expand it this year!
