philanthropy is good for the sole...

and TOMS does just that. The mission of TOMS is one-for-one. Every time you purchase a pare of rad TOMS sneakers, you're also helping a child in need receive shoes.

Today, TOMS encouraged everyone to go a day without shoes. I will admit, i did not start out my day shoeless...i guess it was nervousness to stand out, but after seeing Sara Bareilles tweet about it all morning, i finally got the nerve to go naked...on my feet, sillies!!

I went through Trader Joes with bare feet, Raley's with bare feet, and went to yoga in bare feet. As the day went on, i noticed it got easier and easier to feel comfortable with the image i was helping bring to my community. I noticed something else, too...my feet were starting to get tired and ached at the end of the day.

Living in such a rich nation, i dont think we realize what it means to not even have adequate footwear. Today taught me that i have so much in this life. Companies like TOMS are a great cause and effort to get behind.

Guess this means i'll have to go out and buy another pair of shoes...damn;)

a change would do you good...

what does change mean to you? change, to me, is petrifying...does the change bring greater things into your life? or does it cause more stress? probably a bit of both, i suppose...But it is inevitable, if not in your own life, then in the life around you; policies change, politicians change, people in your communities change.

change: make or become a different substance entirely; transform.
petrify: make (someone) so frightened that they are unable to move or think

the most beautiful transformation i've read of is that of a butterfly...The book When The Heart Waits, by Sue Monk Kidd, is a wonderful story of transformation and waiting...two seemingly different actions. But change and transformation, and waiting, can be painful. But that pain helps transform you into what you are meant to be.

wait: remain in readiness for some purpose

So maybe right now i am meant to be a starbucks barista...as menial as that seems to me sometimes, i will choose to believe i am exactly where God wants me. If i can show God's grace, glory, and love to at least one person while i am working at starbucks, it will be worth every second of frustration, anxiety, stress, disagreements with my boss, etc.

the frugal facemask

I tried a new homemade face mask tonight! I got this recipe from a website i recently came across. The site is collegefashion.net and i am in love...seriously, i check the site multiple times a day for updates;)

to make the mask, combine:

 2 Tablespoons Honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
The starbucks holiday cup is holding the nutmeg i swiped from my store around the holidays for another baking adventure;)

mix everything together, apply to your face, and leave on for about 30 minutes:

rinse with warm water, using circular motions to exfoliate. pat your face dry.

tada!!

beautiful, fresh face:)
